Mission
AAEC prepares young adults for success now and in the future by promoting lifelong learning through rigorous academic instruction, promoting social responsibility and employability, and providing motivated students with the opportunity to earn college credits while completing their high school requirements.
What is AAEC?
Founded in 1997, Arizona Agribusiness and Equine Center, Inc., (AAEC) in partnership with Maricopa Community Colleges, is a multiple campus, independent high school district. Each campus offers a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, and enables qualified secondary students to earn college-transferable credits while completing work for their high school diploma. AAEC teaches the Arizona State Standards in all core curricula and is accredited by the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges.
History
Linda Proctor-Downing founded Arizona Agribusiness and Equine Center, Inc. in 1997. Her twenty plus years of classroom and administrative experience in creating and delivering innovative instruction and programs in equine sciences, agriculture and agribusiness became the foundation for the new venture. In order to offer students academically challenging courses beyond the high school curriculum, AAEC embarked upon a partnership with South Mountain Community College in the Maricopa County Community College District. AAEC’s collaboration with the community college permitted qualified students to take college courses while completing high school diploma requirements. These two critical design elements – the high school campus located contiguous to or on a college campus, and secondary students concurrently enrolled in college-level courses as part of their high school course of study – have become the defining features of all AAEC schools.
